The students have been working on the attached Short Story. It is called "Raymond's Run". It is a good story with a good message. They also have been assigned questions 1-7. We are finishing that up today. 

We have been extremely busy taking care of our Fall testing. Those include the STAR assessment, Aimsweb Maze assessment, and the Aimsweb RCBM assessment. This year in my class, all students will have a data folder that they will keep in the room. I have decided to do this for a couple of reasons. The first reason being I believe that some students are intrinsically motivated to see their progress (whether increasing or decreasing) and will do what is necessary the next time the same assessment comes up. Second, with 8th grade teachers now being on Standards Base Grading, I hope this will help those students who might not be at the "grade level standard" on their report card but will be able to show growth in their data folder. This will be their success story :) I believe it will also help those students and parents who want to be sure their child is progressing in their reading comprehension (STAR and Maze assessment) and building their fluency (RCBM assessment) in regards to their reading and understanding. If you have any questions in regards to their data folder, please let me know.
