Supplies:  Each student will need to have the following:  


Sixth Grade Supply List   

The following are supplies that ALL sixth graders will need to start the school year.  Your child will be provided with a red or silver folder that will come home each night.  Please review this folder. It will contain unfinished work and graded papers from the day. 

 
  • NO LARGE Trapper Keepers (the kind with zippers).  They are too large to fit in the lockers and we find individual folders work better (and are more cost effective :)
 
  • One Pencil Pouch*** 
 
  • One Pair of in-ear Earbuds ***(These will be used for various computer work).  We prefer students have a pair that they can keep in their pencil pouch the entire year.
 
  •  MANY, MANY pencils!***  Pencils go quickly, so you will want extras! Mechanical Pencils with extra lead are also an option. Tip: Ticonderoga pencils sharpen the best and last the longest.
 
  • Small personal pencil sharpener***
 
  • Colored Pencils***
 
  • Highlighters***
 
  • One  Single Subject Spiral Notebooks
 
  • Students will need an independent reading book  to take to all classes. The school library is not open at the beginning of the year, it is helpful if students have a book from home or the public library to start the year.

Dear Parents,


The following is some important information that will help ensure the success of each student in our social studies class this year.  


Parent/Student/Teacher Communication:  I encourage you to contact me via email if you have any questions or concerns about daily assignments that are being completed at home.  I can quickly respond to email.


Online Options to Stay on Top of your Child’s Assignments 


  1. We use The Swartz Creek Edlio Blog to post daily assignments.  You can sign up for the push notifications on the 6th grade teacher page Swartz Creek Middle School Website. 
  2. We use Google Classroom to keep informed of your child’s parent notes, worksheets needed, and extra study tools.  Students have a Google Classroom account through the school - some may have used it in previous years. You and your child can log into the site using your child’s login information to see parent notes, daily assignments, and any worksheets needed to complete assignments.  You will also be able to sign up to your child’s Google Classroom as a Guardian; this allows you to keep track of your student’s classroom assignments through guardian email summaries. You can choose the frequency of the emails—daily or weekly—and you can unsubscribe or remove yourself from Classroom at any time. You will find a link to Classroom on the Edlio site on the Swartz Creek Middle School Website.  

Online Options to Stay on Top of your Child’s Grades 

PowerParent is the grading program for your child.  You are able to create an account and keep track of grades.  Here is a link to access Parent Portal. Parent Portal Instructions

Grading:  Report Card Grades are determined from Summative Assessments, (such as weekly quizzes, tests, and performance tasks).  Students complete Daily Practice Assignments and Formative Assessments which are specific to the State Standards and the Summative Assessment.  All Daily Practice Assignments and Formative Assessments are expected to be completed. Students are not able to take the Summative Assessment until all Daily Practice Assignments and Formative Assessments are completed.  An Incomplete will show on the student’s Report Card until all work is completed and learning is assessed.


  • Whenever possible, it is advised that students make-up a test or quiz before or after school or during Dragon Time to avoid missing any additional classroom learning activities.

  • Students may have the option of retaking a test.  Students will submit a plan of relearning and provide evidence of that relearning before assessment can be retaken.  

Guest Teachers:  In the event that I am unable to be in class, I expect students to exhibit their best behavior.  This includes doing all that they can to accommodate a guest in our classroom in the same manner that they would a guest in their home.  If a student chooses to be uncooperative or disrespectful to a guest teacher, the consequences will range from a parent contact, assigned detention(s), or an office referral.

Student Expectations:  


  • To be on time & prepared for class each day students should 
  • have the above supplies with them at the start of class each day.
  • be in their assigned seat, and ready to begin and participate BEFORE the bells rings.
  • All assignments to be completed with quality and on time.  If a student has two missing or incomplete assignments, then the student will complete the assignments during lunch or after school.

Cheating:  It is not acceptable for students who turn in work that is not an authentic product of their own effort.  Please note:


  • Once a student lets his/her paper leave their possession they are accountable for providing answers to another student.  
  • It is not acceptable for students who are “working together” or “helping each other” to turn in identical answers.  Each student should be able to articulate a response to a question that reflects their own understanding of and/or application of the concepts covered in an assignment.

6th Grade World Geography

We are learning and taking notes about Poverty in Mexico City and making connections.  Tomorrow students are using their notes and writing a reflective piece.

6th Grade World Geography

Today students finished working in their Latin America Atlas pages.  Some classes began our Mexico City Dump Poverty discussion - Could you walk a mile in their shoes?

6th Grade World Geography

Lesson 9 Spatial Inequality test tomorrow!  Study Vocab, Neighborhood Visit Questions, and Review / Study Guide.

Ancient History 7th Grade

 Lesson 11 The Origins of Judaism tomorrow!  Study Study!! 
Know your four main people, how they led and how they contributed to the religion.  Know about documents of Judaism.

6th Grade World Geography

Students have Homework to finish the Lesson 9 Spatial Inequality Review/Study Guide.  They are preparing for their test on Friday.  
 
Students also took a Formative Assessment over Lesson 9 - this tells them how much they need to study!

Ancient History 7th Grade

Students choose a leader they thought was most influential in the development of Judaism.  They completed a paragraph stating why and using evidence to support their idea.
 
The Lesson 11 The Origins of Judaism Summative Assessment is this Friday.

6th Grade World Geography

Students took a Summative Vocabulary Quiz today.  They began working on Latin America Atlas packet, which is due on Friday.  Friday is also the Summative Lesson 9 Test.
 
There are study materials on Google Classroom.

Ancient History 7th Grade

Students are to read David and Solomon, read Section 6, The Lives of David and Solomon: Kings of Israel. Complete the Reading Notes for that section.

Students took a Summative Vocabulary quiz.  Lesson 11  final test is this Friday.

Ancient History 7th Grade

Students are to read Section 5, The Life of Moses: Leader of the Israelites. Students completed the Reading Notes for that section.

Students are to take a Formative Quiz over Vocabulary and Content.  Tomorrow students will take a Summative Vocabulary quiz.

6th Grade World Geography

Students took their last Neighborhood Visit #4 today.  They have completed through Neighborhood Visit #4 which they turned in today.  They also turned in their 3/2/1 Notes.  Tomorrow we are taking a Summative Vocabulary Quiz and working with our Atlas.

Ancient History 7th Grade

Students are Refreshing their learning from Lesson 9 with an Escape Room EDU.  This is the first one we are doing and it is using a Computer Google Form Code rather than locks.  Who can Escape??

6th Grade World Geography

Students learned about the "Haves" and "Have-Nots" in Mexico City.  We read and took notes in our text as a class Section 4.  We Visited Neighborhood #3 in our Journey of learning.  Monday students will be taking a Vocabulary Quiz.  All 3/2/1 Notes should be complete, but not the Summary.  All Vocabulary and Neighborhood Visits #1-3 should be complete.

Ancient History 7th Grade

We read together Section 3 and students marked up their text.  Students complete work packet fro section 3 and watched a HipHughes video about Judaism

6th Grade World Geography

Today we Read Section 3, Urbanization Creates New Problems, to learn about problems resulting from Mexico City's rapid growth.  As I read to the class, they completed their 3/2/1 Notes.  Students also completed Neighborhood Visit 2.
Students need to complete Section 4 3/2/1 Notes for 1/31/20.
 
 
All 3/2/1 Notes should be completed by 1/31/20.
Vocabulary should be completed by 1/31/20.
Neighborhood Visit 1 and 2 should be completed by 1/31/20.
