SCMS Drama Club (2021-22)

"The Middle School Drama Club is holding auditions for our upcoming production of Aladdin Jr.!!

Auditions will take place on Tuesday, November 30th from 4:15 - 7:00 pm. at the Swartz Creek Performing Arts Center.
To audition for a role, you will need to perform 1 minute of a song from a musical and deliver a 30 second to 1 minute long monologue.  You can sing your song acapella or using a backing track (with no vocals on the track).  Both song and monologue should be memorized.

Some students may be asked to attend callbacks on Wednesday, December 1st starting at 4:15 pm.

The show will take place March 18th-20th

If you have any questions, please e-mail Mr. Love at jlove@swcrk.org."

Middle School Drama Club
Drama Club Director: Mr. Jeremy Love

I'm so excited to work with your student in Drama Club this year! We had quite a turn out yesterday.  They were very eager to get started and had lots of great questions - It's going to be a fun year!

Meeting Information & Expectations
To be a member of the MIddle School Drama Club, all students must uphold Swartz Creek academic standards and follow CREEK expectations while at school and when at our meetings and rehearsals.

To start the year, our meetings will be focused on basic theatre skills - Stage direction, projection, character development, movement.  My goal is to get the students ready to perform on the stage and refresh their skills.

Meetings are held in Room 502 at the Middle School.  We will start at 4:15 pm and finish promptly at 5:15 pm.

Many students have joined Drama Club because of their interest in Tech (Costumes, Lights, Props, Set, Makeup).  Unfortunately, we won't be working on the technical side of things until we start preparing for the show.  They are still welcome to attend our meetings if they would like to participate in our acting/performance activities.  If they aren't interested in performing or participating in those types of lessons, they can hold off attending the upcoming meetings and I will reach out to them when they are needed.  Not attending these meetings will NOT affect their membership in Drama Club.

If you students needs to attend our meetings virtually, here is the link for our Google Meet -  https://meet.google.com/bmm-dxnh-jqq.  This link is also available on our MS Drama Club Google Classroom.

Drop off and Pick up Times

In addition to being the MS Drama Club Director, I am also a teacher in the district.  I teach 4th grade at Elms Road Elementary.  For this reason, we have to have our meetings at the later time.

To make sure all students are safe, please drop your child off no sooner than 4:10 pm.  This will ensure that I am in the building and able to supervise the students.  Remember - Students are not permitted to stay at the school and wait for Drama Club to begin.  They must exit the building by 2:45 pm as there is no guaranteed adult supervision during that time.

Additionally, please be prompt in picking your kiddos up at 5:15 pm.  This one is very important to me as I have a commitment in Frankenmuth each night at 6:00.  It's about a 35-40 minute drive from Swartz Creek.  I definitely appreciate your help ensuring your child is picked up in a timely manner so that I can fulfill my other obligations.  Thank you in advance for understanding.

If the pick up and drop off times prove to be problematic, please consider having your child attend meetings virtually using the Google Meet option.

Production
I'm excited to announce that this year, we'll be presenting the musical, Aladdin Jr.!! This show is based on the Disney movie, but with added songs and characters.  It's called "Jr" because it's not quite as long as the Broadway version of the show.  For this show, there will be a large cast of students who love to sing, act and/or dance.  While I don't have exact dates for you as of yet, I've provided a brief timeline below.  It's going to be a blast helping the students bring this show to life!

Aladdin Jr. - Tentative Timeline
  • Auditions - Tuesday November 30th
  • Rehearsals - January to March - Twice a week (Most like Tuesdays and Thursdays) - possibly additional rehearsals as we get closer to the show.
  • Tech Week(s) - 1-2 Weeks Before the Show - Rehearse each day at the PAC
  • Performances - March 18th - 19th 2022
Whew!!  That's a lot of information!

Please reach out if you have any questions at all.

Again, thank you for letting your child be part of our Middle School Drama Club!
