Welcome to the wonders of seventh grade!

I am Ms. Carrie Swanson and I am a special education case coordinator and teacher. This is my 15th year at SCMS; my 12th in seventh grade. Seventh grade is a time of many changes for children--physically, mentally and emotionally. It is challenging for them as well as parents, teachers and other adults in their lives. It is my hope that you, your child and I working together will make for a positive and successful year.

I have a few recommendations that will help make this possible.

  • Help your child find a good organizational system: I have found that accordion folders and 8 pocket portfolios work very well.
  • Provide a flat pencil case that can be carried to each class and lots of lead if your child prefers mechanical pencils. Pencils can be purchased from the machines for 25 cents. (If you are unable to get any of these and/or teacher requested supplies (binders, folders, dividers, etc…) please let me or the counselors know.)
  • Regularly check your child’s grades on PowerParent, take advantage of teachers’ blogs to stay informed about current and upcoming assignments and/or ask to see your child’s planner every night.
  • Attend your child’s IEPT meeting and if this is not possible then provide input. Your role is important and appreciated.
  • Physical changes mean that your child may need to bathe more frequently than before and may need to wear underarm deodorant. Your guidance and assistance in this area is essential.

The best way to get in touch with me is through email, but phone calls, notes, smoke signals, etc…are fine as long as we have frequent communication. If you have any questions or concerns about your child, school procedures, available resources, etc…please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me.

To help assist with this communication. I would greatly appreciate if you would email me (if possible) upon seeing this. This will let me know that that the email address I have is correct and will ensure that I have your email address and it is working correctly.

I look forward to meeting and working with you.
